As the Director of Electrical Systems Engineering, you have a strong technical voice. You are highly respected, and your team looks to you to provide technical vision and guidance. You lead by example and provide direction through a combination of leadership, collaboration and strong business acumen.
This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering and is responsible for enhancing the overall function and performance of the Electrical Engineering team. Responsibilities include allocating the department’s activities to support product development, cost reduction, and sustaining engineering for cardio fitness equipment.
The ideal candidate for this position has extensive technical knowledge in general electrical system architecture, controls that include entertainment elements just as TV tuners and streaming for cardio consoles, power and motor controls. Therefore, it is important to have system knowledge in WiFi, Bluetooth, TV tuners, electrical systems and motor control technologies.
Lead the electrical engineering team to ensure proper work flow, available resources and quality control
Prioritize work load and ensure on time delivery through design for Six Sigma, Agile, toll gate processes and Lean principles
Provide technical/team leadership for new products, new system designs, manufacturing, and service delivery
Establish and define the theoretical basis and principles that should apply and estimated time, expense and manpower for completion of all tasks
Analyze, evaluate and plan methods of approach and organize the means to achieve solutions for complex technical problems
Document all circuit and system designs, specifications and test plans
Complete engineering documentation through engineering change notifications (ECN) release
Provide information and technical support from Engineering to other departments
Mentor lower level engineers as applicable
Develop system architecture strategy and communicate to executive management
Strong ability to work cross functionally with Product Management, Service, Sourcing and Manufacturing
Develop and manage the budget for department by partnering with the Program Management team.
8-10 years of product development experience with electromechanical systems
4-5 years of direct personnel management experience
Advanced understanding of processes required to design cost effective system solutions for consumer and commercial electronic products (design validation test planning, etc.)
Significant experience with internal manufacturing
Significant experience with contract manufacturers in China, Taiwan, Japan and Mexico
Previous experience managing a team and leading cross-functional teams
Project management experience desirable with proven leadership ability
Strong presentation, cross-cultural communication and analytical skills necessary
Verbal and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
Working knowledge of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
Working knowledge of CAD and electrical design packages
Working knowledge of motion control systems is preferred
Willingness to travel 15-25% of the time, including internationally
Knowledge of/experience in the world-wide fitness industry is preferred
BA/BS in Electrical Engineering Technology, a similar discipline, or commensurate experience required, MS preferred
