We are seeking a motivated, self-starter who works well under deadlines. Must be flexible and comfortable in manufacturing and distribution center environments. Plans and performs a variety of engineering functions related to the packaging development process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, evaluation, selection, optimization, and material specification(s) used in the packaging process/methods to support New Product Development and Continuous Improvement projects. Work with cross functional team members to specify type of packaging to meet customer requirements (Retail, OEM, etc). Work with Manufacturing Engineers to specify equipment that provides innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.

  • Ensure ERP accuracy of packaging information (part number generation, individual and standard pack weights and dimensions, standard packs per layer, layers per pallet, pallet size, UPC, etc..). Initiate and process all documentation necessary to record ERP additions/changes. Update documented work instructions as needed when additions/changes occur.

  • Responsible for conducting environmental and reliability tests to evaluate product and package designs as they relate to the distribution environment. Record and evaluate test data relative to required test methods.

  • Analyze packaging materials/methods and provide recommendations to support Navico Group sustainability efforts.

  • Responsible for managing and updating the Carton database.

  • Provide process documentation and material specification for packaging materials such as tape, adhesives, labels, paper, plastic, wood, returnable containers. Material handling methods including hand or motorized transportation, storage and loading limits involving stacking data.

  • Work with Production staff to select warehouse locations for packaging that make the most sense logistically.

Qualifications

Education

  • BS Degree with Packaging Engineering emphasis, or any other degree related to Packaging Engineering.

Experience

  • 1 – 3 years packaging engineering experience required

Skill (Technical, Communication, Interpersonal, etc.)

  • Has a general knowledge of packaging materials associated with a manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding of product specifications

  • Ability to manage expense and small capital budgets.

  • Regular exercise of judgment required on details of work and in developing action plans for the department.

  • Works toward quality and cost goals within a specific cost center in order to contribute to the organization's broader goals.

  • Respects others: strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with many different types of people, ability to command respect from peers and subordinates versus demanding it.

  • Competent in various PC related skills. May include spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, internet, and SolidWorks.

  • Good interpersonal skills

Supervision

  • Minimal

Work Environment

  • Periodic travel required to support Navico strategic goals.

  • Must be able to flex schedule between shifts, as needed, to meet production deadlines.
